Normally the text for Annette Wasilik's monthly first-Wednesday series goes something like “Annette Wasilik curates and hosts this showcase of the area's finest singer/songwriters at Hank Dietle's Tavern in Rockville, which has literally risen from the ashes and it looks, sounds and feels fabulous! $10-$20 Suggested donation for the artists.”
But for tonight's event the suggested donation is going towards continuing the annual tradition of the FocusMusic Rising Artist Award! For decades, Vic and Reba Heyman attended concerts and festivals across the nation, supporting artists with their energy as well as financially, earning them the affectionate title of “folk angels”. In their spirit, our annual award recognizes and supports a rising individual or group in the folk community… but we need to replenish that pot to keep the award going!
We're gathering the talented performing artists of FocusMusic leadership along with the winner of our most recent Rising Artist Award, Rebecca Berlin, to put on one SPECTACULAR end-of-the-year showcase and fundraiser in the hopes that we can keep the RAA going for many years to come!
